7th Grade Lead Teacher
My name is Elisa Heiligman Recht and I am a Jewish Educator and Social Worker. I have undergraduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (Social Work, Jewish Studies and Hebrew) and a graduate degree (MSW) from Washington University. My most meaningful education comes from working with youth groups, Jewish day camps, Jewish overnight camps, teaching Hebrew and religious school, Hebrew high school, and Jewish day school. My passion is informal Jewish education where my goal is to ignite and energize Jewish identities through creative curricula and activities. I have written several curriculum made for both formal classroom settings and informal camp and youth group settings. I have two delicious boys, Kobi and Tal and an amazing husband Rick.
This year I will be teaching 7th and 9th grade. I will also be working with the mid-week program to help bring meaning and kavannah (intention) to the T'fillah program. In the classroom, I like to to a lot of active activities complimented by discussions. I am super interested in how the topics make my students feel and how they might be relevant to them. I always want to know what is most meaningful and try to create programs that will excite and stimulate thought.
My strongest feelings about teaching religious school center around the idea of creating a place where Judaism feels good. I try my best to connect with each student and let them know that I truly care about who they are and what they are doing both at religious school and outside of religious school. I love teaching and am so honored to be working at Shaare Emeth, it's such an amazing school.
